Den första reaktionen på #Quake Champions var försiktigt optimistisk. Snudd på lite orolig. Snacket om "champions" med unika färdigheter lät mer som dagens moba-shooter-trend än klassisk dödsmatch med raketkastare och högt tempo. Tyska sajten Gamestar har dock snackat med Tim Willits på id Software och några detaljer har blivit tydligare.
Som att champions inte kommer att ha unika vapen, hela arsenalen ligger klassiskt utspridd på kartan. Istället verkar dessa unika förmågor vara fokuserade kring rörelse. Som att en kan teleportera sig, vilket visades i trailern. Man skriver också att deathmatch och team deathmatch är bekräftade spellägen och att id tror att fem mot fem är det gylle antalet i lagbaserade lägen.
