• Punished "Venom" Snake
  Big Boss, real name John, also known as Jack, and formerly known as Vic Boss, Naked Snake, Punished Snake, Venom Snake, or simply Snake, was a renowned special forces operative and mercenary commander.

• Ishmael
  Ishmael was a hospital patient whom Venom Snake met in 1984. During this time, he wore bandages over his face, obscuring all but his mouth and eyes.

• Benedict "Kazuhira" Miller
  Kazuhira Miller (カズヒラ・ミラー Kazuhira Mirā?), also known as Benedict "Kazuhira" Miller, McDonell Benedict Miller and Master Miller, was the second-in-command of the Militaires Sans Frontières and Diamond Dogs, and the survival trainer of FOXHOUND.

• Huey Emmerich
  Dr. "Huey" Emmerich was a mechanical engineer responsible for developing bipedal locomotion technology for the Peace Walker Project in 1974.

• Revolver "Shalashaska" Ocelot
  Revolver Ocelot, real name Adamska (Russian: Адамска), and also known as ADAM, Shalashaska (Russian: Шалашаска), or simply Ocelot (Russian: Оцелот), was an operative of FOXHOUND and an agent of the Patriots.

• Eli
  Eli was a boy who encountered Venom Snake in 1984. At some point, he met up with Venom Snake and Ocelot, with the latter telling him that his father "isn't around."

• Quiet
  Quiet (Russian: Тихоня) was a female sniper/assassin who was active during the 1980s, and was feared by the Afghanistan-occupying Soviet forces.

• Code Talker
  Code Talker was an elderly man Venom Snake encountered during the 1980s. He also was the man responsible for providing Skull Face with parasites that eventually caused Zero to enter a vegetative state, and also tricked Skull Face into getting experimental radiation therapy to get rid of parasites lodged in his vocal chords, hiding that the cure to it was actually wolbachia.

• Skull Face
  Skull Face was the heavily scarred commander of the military group XOF during the 1970s. Skull Face would also become a commander of the Parasite Unit in the 1980s. He suffered extensive injuries in his youth which caused his characteristic facial scars, burns, and discolorations, most notably a Glasgow smile.

• Paz Ortega Andrade
  Paz Ortega Andrade, real name Pacifica Ocean, was a Cipher agent who infiltrated the Militaires Sans Frontières during the Peace Walker Incident in 1974.

• Zero
  Zero (real name David Oh, and formerly known as "O", Major Tom, Major Zero and Cipher) was the original commander of CIA Special Forces Unit FOX (Force Operation X). After Zero became a founding member of the Patriots along with Big Boss, the two friends would later develop a bitter enmity.

• Dr. Strangelove
  Dr. Strangelove was an AI research scientist, responsible for the development of the Mammal Pod AI, as part of the Peace Walker Project in the 1970s. As her nickname implies, she had "a strange love"; a reference to her sexuality. She originally held a grudge against the mercenary Big Boss for his killing of The Boss.

• The Boss AI
  The Boss AI, officially designated BS-Imago, and often referred to as the Mammal Pod, was an AI incorporated into the Peace Walker unmanned weapon, created in the early 1970s.

  Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin (Russian: Евгений Борисович Волгин), also known as Thunderbolt, was a Stalinist GRU colonel, as well as the strategic operations commander of the Soviet Union, who attempted to seize control of the Soviet Union by overthrowing Nikita Khrushchev and installing Leonid Brezhnev and Alexei Kosygin in his place.

• Unidentified doctor
  A doctor was among the hospital staff that attended Big Boss during the 1980s, after the latter had awakened from a coma. Upon being informed of Big Boss's recovery, he arrived at his patient's ward and told him to relax, as there was "plenty of time," before telling him something important. The doctor then informed him that he had been out for quite some time, and pre-empted Big Boss's question of how long it had been by answering "nine years." The doctor was later strangled to death along with a nurse by Quiet.

• Tretij Rebenok
  Tretij Rebenok was a child who was present during the attack of a Cyprus hospital in 1984. He possessed powers comparable to pyrokinesis and psychokinesis

• D.D.
  D.D. (Diamond Dog) was the pet canid of the private military company Diamond Dogs during the 1980s. Like his owner, Big Boss, the dog wore an eyepatch over his missing right eye.

• Diamond Horse
  Diamond Horse (also known as D. Horse) was a white horse owned by the PMC Diamond Dogs during the 1980s.

  During the attack at the hospital shortly after Big Boss had just woken up from his nine year coma in 1984, Ocelot brought Diamond Horse over and rescued Big Boss, finding him crawling out of an overturned jeep. Big Boss then rode the horse with Ocelot as he fended off a fiery winged unicorn-like specter piloted by a ghost from his past. Eventually, the horse and its occupants stumbled upon a collapsing cliff from lightning, although the horse survived.

c.1950 Frank Jaeger is born

c.1950 John a.k.a Jack/Naked Snake/Big Boss fights in the Korean War as a teenager.

1950 John meets The Boss and becomes her apprentice.

1954 John participates in the Bikini Atoll test of the detonation of a hydrogen bomb. John does not suffer from thyroid cancer, leukemia or death by radiation. Instead he becomes sterile and therefore not able to reproduce.

1959, Jun 12 John and The Boss part ways.

1960's
1964 Virtuous Mission. John a.k.a Jack receives the codename Naked Snake and is sent to Tselinoyarsk to rescue scientist Nikolai Stephanovich Sokolov.

1964 Operation Snake Eater. Naked Snake is sent once again to the field to rescue Sokolov, destroy the Shagohod, kill The Cobras, and Colonel Volgin, and The Boss. He meets a chinese operative called Tatyana going by the codename of EVA and retrieves The Philosophers Legacy along the way. Naked Snake earns the title of Big Boss thus becoming a legend in the battlefield.

1966 Big Boss meets Frank Jaeger in Mozambique. Stops him in battle. Sends him into rehabilitation facility to keep him safe.

1968 EVA disappeared in Hanoi during Vietnam War according to official records.

1972 Les Enfant Terribles Project. Solid Snake and Liquid Snake are born. Big Boss leaves The Patriots.

1974 Peace Walker Incident. Militaires Sans Frontieres and Big Boss fight against the Peace Sentinels and in the end prevent nuclear war.

1974, 8 Sept Cease fire - Mozambican War of Independence

1975, 12 Mar Big Boss infiltrates Camp Omega in order to save Chico and Paz. Mother Base is attacked and destroyed by XOF. Big Boss falls into a 9-year coma.

1975, Jun 25 Mozambique acquires independence from Portugal

Frank Jaeger responsible for killing Naomi Hunter's parents during the Rhodesian Bush War. Feeling intense guilt, Jaeger adopts Hunter as his younger sister.

Early 1980s Raiden and Hal Emmerich are born.

1984
Big Boss wakes from his 9-year coma. The events of Phantom Pain unfold.

c.1984 Frank Jaeger returns to Mozambique fighting for the RENAMO. Jaeger endures severe torture, losing his nose and ears. He would ultimately be rescued by Big Boss once more.

c.1984 Naomi Hunter meets Big Boss. Big Boss takes Hunter and Jaeger to the United States. However, both Jaeger and Big Boss return to Mozambique to continue fighting the war, leaving Hunter behind.

1987 Meryl Silverburgh is born.

1990's
1995 Outer Heaven Uprising. FOXHOUND operative Solid Snake is sent into Outer Heaven to rescue Gray Fox and destroy Metal Gear. He fights Big Boss who is revealed to be behind everything.

1997 Huey Emmerich drowns himself after learning that his wife had an affair with his son, Hal Emmerich. Hal Emmerich runs away from his home due to guilt.

1999 Zanzibar Land Disturbance. Solid Snake infiltrates Zanzibar Land. Destroys Metal Gear D and leaves Gray Fox a cripple. Snake fights Big Boss one more time defeating him for good.

2000's
2005 The Shadow Moses Incident occurs.
2007 Tanker Incident. Metal Gear Ray is stolen by Ocelot and crude oil is dispersed in the ocean due to the tanker's destruction prompting the cronstruction of the Big Shell.

2009 Big Shell Incident. Solid Snake, alongside Raiden, defeat Dead Cell and Solidus Snake. They also learn of The Patriots.

2010's
2014 Liquid Ocelot's Insurrection. Ocelot, under the persona of Liquid Ocelot, uses the Sons of the Patriots to free himself from The Patriots. Solid Snake and Otacon destroy JD above Outer Haven seemingly destroying The Patriots for good. Big Boss comes back to explain everything to his son. Big Boss kills Zero and dies infront of The Boss's grave due to FOXDIE.

2018 (Non Canon)
Raiden fights the Winds of Destruction and World Marshall.

Diamond Dogs
Diamond Dogs was a private military company led by Big Boss around the 1980s. It was created as a result of the devastation of the Militaires Sans Frontières as well as the attack on Mother Base.

Cipher
The Patriots, also known as the La-li-lu-le-lo and Cipher, were a secret organization that, by the early 1990s, controlled the United States of America. The group was formed to fulfill the ideal of a unified world that was envisioned by the legendary soldier The Boss and later sought to control the entire world to ensure this.

XOF
XOF was the proxy organization of Cipher that existed some time around the mid 1970s and early '80s. During this time, they were led by a heavily scarred man known by the codename of "Skull Face." The group's logo utilized an inverted image of the fox that was used by the (then defunct) FOX Unit.

Red Army
The Red Army was the national army of the Soviet Union from 1918-1991. It was formed during the Russian Civil War in 1918 from Bolshevik Red Guards by communist theorist Leon Trotsky. At first, the army had no military ranks, and was a voluntary group. By 1922, the Red Army became the official army of the Soviet Union, and would serve the country until 1991, when the Soviet Union would collapse.

Child soldiers
Child soldiers, sometimes referred to as little soldiers, are children who are either raised as soldiers or forced to fight in the battlefield. They are usually younger than 16.

Mujahideen
Mujahideen (Arabic: المجاهدين‎) is the plural form of mujahid (Arabic: مجاهد‎), the term for one engaged in Jihad. In English usage, it refers to the guerrilla type military outfits led by the Muslim Afghan warriors in the Soviet war in Afghanistan.

Parasite Unit
The Parasite Unit, or Skulls were a military group commanded by Skull Face that Venom Snake encountered in Afghanistan. This unit wiped out Kazuhira Miller's unit in minutes before capturing him.

The first Metal Gear game for the MSX follows Solid Snake, a senior member of the FOXHOUND special operations unit. He is sent by his superior Big Boss to the Eastern Pacific fortress Outer Heaven, with the goal of finding the missing squad member Gray Fox and investigating a weapon known as Metal Gear. However, Big Boss is later revealed to be the leader of Outer Heaven, which he has created as a place for soldiers to fight free of any ideology that he believes has been forced upon them by governments. He fights Snake and, although he loses, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake reveals Big Boss's survival. The two face off, with Snake once again achieving victory.

Metal Gear Solid elaborates on the storyline of the earlier games and reveals that Solid Snake is a genetic clone of Big Boss, created as part of a secret government project. A new antagonist is introduced in the form of Liquid Snake, Snake's twin brother who takes control of FOXHOUND after Snake's retirement. Liquid and FOXHOUND take control of a nuclear weapons disposal facility in Alaska and commandeer REX, the next-generation Metal Gear weapons platform being tested there. They threaten to detonate REX's warhead unless the government turns over the remains of Big Boss. Solid Snake destroys Metal Gear REX and kills each of the renegade FOXHOUND members with the exception of Revolver Ocelot.

A third Snake brother known as Solidus Snake is introduced as the United States President at the end of Metal Gear Solid and serves as the main antagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. During his time as President, Solidus became aware of a secretive cabal known as "The Patriots" who were steadily manipulating the course of human history. After his tenure as President is over, Solidus takes control of the "Big Shell" offshore facility, which is being used to develop Arsenal Gear, a mobile undersea fortress designed to house and protect a network of artificial intelligences created to influence human development by filtering the availability of information across the Internet. The game is set four years after Liquid's death in Metal Gear Solid, and it puts the player in control of Raiden, a soldier who fights against Solidus, who is revealed to be his former commander during his term as a child soldier.[45] Raiden joins forces with Snake, and later learns that they are all being manipulated by Revolver Ocelot, who has been working for the Patriots. At the end of the game, Ocelot seemingly becomes possessed by Liquid Snake as the nanomachines from Liquid Snake's arm (Which Ocelot took to replace his own arm after Grey Fox slices it off in Metal Gear Solid) work their way into Ocelot's thought process.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which is chronologically the first game in the series, introduces a younger version of Big Boss when he was under the codename Snake during the Cold War.[46] The game focuses on the rise of Naked Snake from apprentice to legendary soldier as well as the downfall of his mentor and matriarchal figure, The Boss. After her staged defection to the Soviet Union ends in disaster, Snake is sent into Russia to kill The Boss and end the threat posed by Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin, a GRU colonel with plans to overthrow the Soviet government. The origins of the Patriots are also explored in the game.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops serves as a direct sequel to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and follows Naked Snake's life after disbanding from FOX. Not yet accepting the Big Boss codename, the plot features the origins of his mercenary unit as he attempts to escape the San Hieronymo Peninsula and does battle with his old unit.[47]

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots deals with a rapidly aging Solid Snake (now branded Old Snake) who is still on his quest to find and defeat Revolver Ocelot, now known as Liquid Ocelot. Despite destroying the Arsenal Gear in Sons of Liberty, the Patriots have continued in their plans to influence the course of human history, installing artificial intelligence systems around the world. Ocelot, opposed to this, has assembled armies with which to fight back, and intends to hijack their entire operating system for his own ends. Solid Snake's objective later changes to destroying the artificial intelligences of the Patriots and stop their oppression. After he and his allies succeed, Snake decides to live out his life peacefully.

The next title, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, is set ten years after the events of Snake Eater and returns to the story of the young Big Boss. Now the head of the mercenary corporation MSF (Militaires Sans Frontières), Big Boss discovers that nuclear warheads are being transported to Latin America and must put a stop to them. Peace Walker features an entirely new cast of characters to provide both aid and intel for Big Boss. A few characters from previous games, such as a younger Miller, make appearance in the game.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is set four years after Guns of the Patriots and it stars Raiden as a cyborg ninja mercenary. Raiden joins the private military firm, Maverick Security Consulting, and is tasked with defending the president of an unspecified African country. However the situation goes awry and the president is killed by a rival PMC company named Desperado Enforcement LLC. Raiden is defeated in the battle, but decides to re-avenge his failure and is sent out with a brand new cyborg body to fight the mysterious military group.

The upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, serves as the direct sequel to Peace Walker and is composed of two chapters similar to the Tanker and Plant chapters in Sons of Liberty. The prologue, Ground Zeroes, is set a few weeks after the final mission in Peace Walker, as Big Boss is tasked with rescuing two VIPs from a US military black site on the coast of Cuba. Big Boss' mission coincides with a visit to Mother Base by the IAEA, which turns out to be a cover for an attack on Mother Base orchestrated by the mysterious organization XOF. In the chaos Big Boss' helicopter collides with another, and he then falls into a coma for nine years, which leads to the events of the main chapter, The Phantom Pain. The basis of the main story revolves around Big Boss forming a new elite unit of soldiers, the "Diamond Dogs", to retaliate for the destruction of MSF and the loss of his comrades.

Naked Snake discovers The Boss was actually Loyal to the U.S and working undercover. The Boss was set up and unaware the Philosophers wanted her dead.. She believed she was on a mission ( Virtuous Mission )to acquire the Philosophers Legacy She was given the nuclear bomb, to give to Volgin and earn his trust Unbeknown to the Boss, Volgin had order's to use the nuclear bomb In doing so, the Americans were blamed for the attack! The CIA revised The Boss's mission and named it "Operation Snake Eater" She was told, she would continue to appear a traitor to the U.S and allow herself to be assassinated by an American Agent Naked Snake
The U.S rename Naked Snake "Big Boss" But he is Angered at the U.S, for having The Boss labelled as a traitor, even though she was loyal and having him used to kill her!
Big Boss (Naked snake) Leaves his unit FOX, shortly followed by Major Zero.

1970 - Game = Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
Big Boss (Naked Snake) has been captured and tortured by his old unit FOX (FOX was taken over by Gene AKA Viper and became a renegade group)
Whilst Imprisoned, Big Boss meets Green Beret Roy Campbell
Big Boss escapes and learns the U.S is blaming Big Boss for turning the FOX unit renegade and charges him with treason, they also arrest Major Zero!
Big Boss and Roy Campbell decide to create "FOXHOUND" (A unit to take down the remaining FOX unit, whilst clearing their names).
Other members of unit Ocelot - Major Zero - EVA and Frank Jaeger (A former FOX agent)
Big Boss defeats Gene, in doing so Gene gives the boss, all of FOX units money,soldiers and plans to build their own military nation.
It is then revealed that FOX kidnapping Big Boss was set up by Ocelot and Major Zero and that Major Zero had manipulated Gene into going renegade.
This was to lure the CIA's director out of hiding so they could obtain the Philosophers legacy
Ocelot kills the head of the CIA and obtains the Philosophers legacy and a list, naming all the members of the Philosophers.
Ocelot - Major Zero and Big Boss use the legacy and there new army to reorganize "The Philosophers" and create "The Patriots"
The Patriots gain control of the U.S government and aim to fulfill the ideal of a unified world, that was envisioned by The Boss (Not to be confused the Big Boss AKA Naked Snake)
Ocelot and Major Zero decide to make Big Boss the face of The Patriots

Created by Dr. Strangelove, The Boss AI was an AI based perfectly on The Boss
A CIA agent named Hot Coldman, attempts to feed the Peace Walker false data, to get it to fire at Militaires Sans Frontières
Coldman is killed by the KGB, but before he dies, he manages to reprogram the Peace Walker to fire on Cuba
At the same time, sending false data to the U.S, making it seem as though they were the target of a Soviet missile strike
Big Boss tries to convince the U.S that the missile attack is fake, in an attempt to prevent the U.S launching their own strike
Big boss is unable to stop the Americans from attacking
The Boss AI, sacrifices it's self to kill the false signal and prevents the world from Nuclear war!

Big Boss uses his group and the Peace Walkers developers, to build his own Metal Gear

The U.S learn that Outer Heaven are building their own Metal Gear

Big Boss sends Frank Jaeger AKA "Grey Fox" on the mission to Outer Heaven, but he fails and is captured.
Big Boss sends in Rookie Solid Snake (Solid Snake does not know Big Boss is his dad) to save Grey Fox
Solid Snake saves Grey Fox and continues to complete Grey Fox's mission
Big Boss attempts to stop Solid Snake from completing his mission, he reveals he is the leader of Outer Heaven
That he took the role as leader of FOXHOUND so he could delay the mission, so Outer Heaven could finish building the Metal Gear
Solid Snake defeats Big Boss and the Metal Gear and sets the facility to self destruct

The worlds oil is running low, it is considered a major crisis
To counter the problem Dr. Kio Marv creates a synthetic oil
He is kidnapped by soldiers from Zanzibarland, with the intentions of holding the world hostage by controlling the worlds oil supply
Zanzibar uses Metal Gears to watch over Dr. Kio Marv to prevent him escaping or being rescuded
Roy Campbell sends Solid Snake to Zanzibar to rescue Dr. Kio Marv
During the mission discovers Big Boss Survived their first encounter
Solid Snake fails to save Dr. Kio Marv, finding him dead, but manages to obtain the formula for the synthetic oil from his corpse.
Solid Snake is attacked by Metal Gear D, a Metal Gear piloted by Grey Fox
Solid Snake defeats the Metal Gear, Grey Fox survives and he and Solid Snake engage in a fight. Solid Snake kills Grey Fox!
Solid Snake comes across Big Boss, they engage in battle resulting in Big Boss being Killed
Just before Big Boss dies, he reveals he is Solid Snakes father

Big Boss's body is recovered by The Patriots, despite suffering major injuries, he was still alive,just.
Major Zero placed him in cold storage, whilst using nanomachines to artificially induce a cryogenic coma
Major Zero's goal was to use Big Boss's genes to enhance soldiers (Genome Soldiers) giving them augmented senses, reflexes, and combat skills
Major Zero grew sentimental and kept Big Boss's body around (Some suggest he regretted his and Big Boss's loss in friendship)
This angers Ocelot and he starts to plot against Major Zero and The Patriots

The Sytem consists of 4 AI's controlled by a fifth "master" AI
He uses Big Boss's bio metric data as a key, to access the central Master AI
The System takes over all functions of The Patriots
The Patriots place Solidus Snake as president of the united states
Solidus Snake orchestrates the forthcoming "Shadow Moses indecent"

Dr. Naomi Hunter perfects the virus FOXDIE, a virus that is programmed to kill specific people, by identifying the person's DNA and their nanomachines
Original created to kill Solid Snake as revenge for Snake killing Grey Fox

2005 - Game = Metal Gear Solid
FOXHOUND leads an armed uprising on a remote island in Alaska's Fox Archipelago. This island, codenamed "Shadow Moses"
Led by Liquid snake, his unit have been genetically advanced (Genome Soldiers)
They have acquired the nuclear-capable Metal Gear REX and are threatening the U.S government with a nuclear strike, if they do not receive the remains of the Big Boss within 24 hours
Roy Campbell sends in Solid Snake, with the mission to locate hostages "DARPA Chief" and "ArmsTech president"
These will confirm if Liquid has the ability to launch the nukes
Snake finds the ArmsTech president and during there conversation, the ArmsTech president suffers a sudden cardiac arrest Snake is confronted by Ocelot, he challenges snake to a gun fight.
As Ocelot is about to shoot Solid Snake, his hand is chopped off by a Cyborg Ninja
The genome modified Ninja is Grey Fox, who was believed to be dead following his fight with Solid Snake in Metal Gear 2

During the mission, Snake rescues Meryl (Roy Campbell's Daughter) and Otacon (Creator or Metal Gear REX)
Upon saving Otacon, Solid Snake learns Liquid has a Metal Gear "Metal Gear REX"
Solid Snake delves deeper into the shadow moses complex, where he encounters the Metal Gear Rex, being piloted by Liquid Snake
During the battle, Grey Fox comes to the aid of Solid Snake. By heavily damaging Metal Gear Rex
But in doing so, Grey Fox is killed when Metal Gear Rex crushes him
After a fist battle on top of Metal Gear REX, Liquid tries to escape
when Solid Snake catches up to Liquid, Liquid suddenly dies of Cardiac arrest and it is at this point Solid Snake discovers he is infected with the FOXDIE virus.
Unknown Grey Fox at the time was still alive, Dr. Naomi Hunter had earlier injected Solid Snake with the virus
Solid Snake is told, he may have years to live

Following the Shadow Moses a book is published, revealing everything, including Solidus's involvement
He is forced to step down as president and goes into hiding with Ocelot
Ocelot also graphs Liquid Snake's hand to himself, in replace of his decapitated one
This results in Liquid Snakes conscience trying to take over Ocelot's body

2007 - Game = Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (Part 1)
Solid Snake discovers a tanker is transporting a Metal Gear Ray
Solid Snake finds and boards the ship in an attempt to destroy it
The tanker is hijacked by Ocelot (who is currently possesed by Liquid Snake) and he Steals the Metal Gear Ray
Solid Snake is accused of stealing Metal Gear Ray and goes into hiding

2009 - Game = Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (Part 2)
FOXHOUND agent Raiden (Also the adopted son of Solidus Snake, but has lost his memories of this) is ordered to rescue hostages being held the Big Shell facility
They are being held captive by a terrorist group named Sons of Liberty (whose leader claims to be Solid Snake)
During the mission Raiden meets a man named Pliskin, who helps him try transport the hostages from the facility
Raiden and Pliskin are attacked by the Leader of The Sons of Liberty, who calls himself Solid Snake
Raiden and Pliskin defeat Solid but he escapes. It is then revealed that the Solid Snake impersonator and the leader of The sons of Liberty is Solidus Snake
Solidus took on the name of Solid to frame Solid for the terrorist activities *At the same time Pliskin reveals he is Solid Snake
Whilst on the facility, Raiden learns the facility is one massive Metal Gear
Also that it also houses one of the Patriot AI systems
Raiden and Solid Snake successfully plant the virus into the AI system, but Solid Snake is captured
Raiden then fights an army of Metal gear Rays
Ocelot reveals that that the entire Big Shell mission was a carefully coordinated attempt to re-enact the events of the Shadow Moses incident
Orchestrated by The Patriot AI for the purpose of creating a soldier (Raiden) on par with Solid Snake
Raiden is then Contacted by The patriot AI via his coms unit.
It reveals that the true purpose of the simulation was to see how well they could simulate and control human behaviour *The AI Orders Raiden to Kill Solidus, otherwise they will kill his loved ones
When Raiden confronts Solidus, Solidus reveals Radiens past to him and that he is Raidens foster father
The two engage in battle, in which Raiden Kills Solidus Snake
When Ocelot sees Solidus Killed, he flee's with last Metal Gear
Angered at being manipulated by The Patriots, Raiden vows to destroy them

2014 - Game = Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Ocelot is now controlled by Liquid Snakes conscience so will be refereed to currently as "Liquid Ocelot"
The world is now run by private nanomachine enhanced militarises, with the biggest ones been lead by Liquid Ocelot
The UN want Liquid Ocelot assassinated, so they send in Solid Snake to kill Liquid Ocelot
Due to the accelerated ageing, Solid Snake is now old and has around 1 year to live
Snake fails is first attempt to assassinate Liquid Ocelot, but discovers Dr. Naomi Hunter is being held captive by Liquid Ocelot
Snake rescues Dr. Naomi Hunter, then is told the FOXDIE virus in his body is mutating
She then explains, Liquid Ocelot wants Big Boss's frozen body, retrieve his bio metric data and use it to access the Master Patriot AI
Giving him control over ever nanomachine in the world
That it will soon become uncontrollable and start to kill everyone aground Solid Snake
During a battle with multiple Mech's (Non nuclear Metal Gears)a Cyborg Ninja assists Solid Snake and helps him escape
The Ninja is revealed to be Raiden
Ocelot succeeds in acquiring Big Boss, gaining control of all the nanomachines in the world, he shuts down every army, in the world, apart from his own
He plans on using Metal Gear Rex (from MGS1) to destroy The Patriots, so he heads back to Shadow Moses to acquire it.
Ocelot obtains Metal Gear Rex and prepares to Launch his Nuclear strike on the Patriots central core.
Solid Snake and Raiden managed to prevent Liquid Ocelot from Launching the strike.
They plant a virus created by Dr. Naomi Hunter into the core of the AI system
The virus destroys The Patriot System, which in turn destroys all AI's and nanomachines in the world
The world is left with only the bare necessity's for the modern civilization to survive
Solid Snake and Liquid Ocelot engage in one final fight, in which Solid Snake kills Liquid Ocelot

With The Patriots and all nanomachines gone, every Army / Person / Government in the world is free from manipulation and can do their own thing
Solid Snake visits The Big Boss's grave, with only a year to live and the FOXDIE virus in him mutating, threatening to kill everyone around him
he decides to commit suicide
Before he pulls the trigger, a man approaches Solid Snake pushing another man in a wheelchair.
The man walking, is Big Boss!!!!!!
He explains the frozen corpse was not him, but Solidus Snake.
As Solidus Snake was the perfect clone of Big Boss and shared his DNA, people presumed the frozen body was Big Boss
Big Boss explains the patriots were created to fullfil The Boss's vision, or a unified world
But along the way Big Boss and Major Zero both lost their way and pursued different paths to achieve this
Big Boss explains Major Zero allowed the AI's to take control, which lead to a world dependent on the war economy
And that his was far from the Vision of The Boss when she envisioned a unified world
Big Boss then walks behind the old man in the wheel chair and turns off his life support, the old man dies in Big Boss's arms
This man, was Major Zero and the war between the two, comes to an end!

Big Boss informs Solid Snake, the AI implanted a new strain of FOXDIE in Solid Snake
That Solid Snake was no longer becoming a biological weapon, but being in the presence of Solid Snake, was killing him (Big Boss)
Big Boss reveals that himself, Major Zero and Ocelot, all just wanted to be free of the way the world was
That each were following their own adaptations of The Boss's original dream
But that ultimately, what The Boss wanted, was to just leave the world alone
Big Boss also reveals that Liquids arm had not possessed Ocelot and that Ocelot had used Drugs, nanotech and hypnosis to implant Liquids personality into himself, to fool the AI. But when he had Liquids arm removed, Ocelot lost his mind and was actually convinced he was Liquid Snake
Big Boss and Solid Snake reconcile then Big Boss dies in Solid Snakes Arms
Solid Snake then goes on, to live the remainder of his life and to see what becomes of the world

So, we come to the conclusion of the story and understandably, a lot of people will still be confused about the Metal Gear saga So here are the fundamentals of the whole story......
Metal Gear solid is about one soldiers legacy "The Boss"
The Boss had a vision of a unified and united world
Forever branded a traitor, by the country she loyally served and protected
Big Boss and his friend Major Zero, both attempted to follow The Boss's Legacy in their own manners
Over time they both lost their ways, losing sight on what The Boss had envisioned
Major Zero left the vision and goal in the hands of an AI system, the AI misinterpreted how to achieve this goal and tried to take over the world
When the AI is finally stopped, we learn the true vision of The Boss
Which was "To just leave the world alone"

Forward Operating Base or FOB, an optional mode Konami has described as an MMO.

Metal Gear Solid V’s major online component might not have arrived at launch, but the FOB feature has for those who are playing on platforms where servers are available. The FOBs are extensions of Big Boss’s Mother Base platform, these extensions can be raided by other players in the Metal Gear universe and is functioning as the core player vs. player mode in the game at the moment.

Players will need to have progressed quite far in Metal Gear Solid 5 just to have the opportunity to construct FOBs. Once players hit level 22, the first FOB is given to players for free. Once you’ve got an FOB operational it will open to attacks from other players, who can steal equipment, injure staff, or steal resources from you. If you’re online, you’ll be given the opportunity to defend it and track down any intruders in your base.
