Sjätte och sista (ha!) Resident Evil-filmen gick upp på bio vintern 2016 och undertiteln The Final Chapter kunde ju inte varit mycket tydligare. Några månader senare slog zombiebomben ner: filmserien rebootas. Greg Russo är manusförfattare och berättar för Discussing Film:
I wanted to go back and make it scary again like a horror film in terms of the classic James Wan style so that was the pitch, going back and looking what made the games scary in the first place so yeah, Resident Evil 7 was a bit of a touchstone for my draft.
Russo är tydlig med att han vill göra något nytt med rebooten och inte fortsätta i samma hjulspår som de sex filmerna som släpptes mellan 2002 och 2016. Han har respekt för filmserien men vill gå tillbaka till rötterna och prioriterar därför skräck framför action. Låter som en vettig prio, no?
it was fun and really cool but at the end of the day, for me as a fan of the original game franchise, I always considered the franchise to be horror at the forefront and action as a secondary feature. So it just made sense to go back to the horror roots.
Resident Evil är skrämmande aktuellt då Resident Evil 2-remaken släpps i januari.
