Blizzard stämde tyska fusktillverkarna Bossland under förra året.

You may have heard the news that Blizzard Entertainment recently won a case with the German Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof) against Bossland GmbH, and I wanted to provide you with some background details.

Bossland is a company that creates cheating tools for video games, including bots for World of Warcraft. These software robots automate in-game character actions, damaging the game experience for legitimate players by flooding or depriving the market of in-game items and misbalancing in-game economies, and providing an unearned and unfair advantage for some.

Germany’s highest court of civil and criminal jurisdiction ruled that Bossland engaged in unfair and disruptive practices by making and distributing these World of Warcraft bots. The court also ruled in favor of Blizzard in a parallel copyright infringement case against the company.

We are committed to protecting our game experience for players, as well as our intellectual property, and are very happy with the court’s decision. We don’t have any further details to provide at this time, other than to say that we will continue to defend all our games in the interest of maintaining a fair-play environment.
