Tanken var att släppa spelet i två upplagor: The Black Box respektive #The Orange Box, där den första skulle bli en billigare version med Episode Two, #Portal och #Team Fortress 2 inkluderade (den brandgula lådan innehåller även #HL2 och #episod ett, samt släpps till pc, [[Playstation 3 | PS3]] och [[Xbox 360 | 360]]). Den svarta lådan har emellertid gått i graven. #Valves markandschef Doug Lombardi berättar för IGN att The Orange Box blir den enda upplagan av episod två och priset landar på 50 dollar för pc-versionen och 60 för konsolvarianterna.

Those who purchase the PC version of The Orange Box will get three separate Steam product codes: One for the three new games, one for HL2, and one for Episode One. This way a PC Orange Box owner can give away their Half-Life 2 or Episode One unused Steam product codes if they don't need a copy of those games. We are excited to deliver the highest value of new gaming content ever offered in one box.
Half-Life 2: Episode Two har i välkänd Valve-anda flyttats fram flera gånger. Det senaste budet är att titeln ska landa framåt september.
