Förra veckan stod det klart att Bethesda skippar Steam för pc-Fallout 76, och släpper istället spelet exklusivt via sin egen klient. Vi funderade på om främsta orsaken kan vara att slippa undan Steams 30 procent höga distributionsavgift, men Pete Hines lyfter fram ett annat skäl för Polygon.

In this particular case, it's an online game and we felt like when it comes to the PC that being able to directly serve our customers, and having that one-to-one relationship was hugely important and key to us being able to do the best game possible.

Med andra ord: Bethesda skippar Steam för din skull. Kontakten med spelarna blir direkt och man slippar mellanhänder. Hines vill inte säga när (eller ens om) Fallout 76 kommer till Steam, men teoretiskt sett kanske man omvärderar beslutet om försäljningen går sämre än väntat. Hines:

I don't have to go to somebody else and say, 'Well, you have to go contact them about x, y or z.' We have found that that is really important particularly with an online game.

Fallout 76 släpps i november till pc, Playstation 4 och Xbox One. Det är definitivt inte ditt vanliga Fallout. Även FZ har snackat med Pete Hines om Fallout 76 och konsten att göra alla nöjda.
