I november inledde den belgiska spelkommissionen en undersökning som skulle slå fast huruvida lootlådor är gambling. I april slog man fast att lootlådorna i FIFA 18, Overwatch och Counter-Strike: Global Offensive är chansbaserade, bryter mot landets lagar och – kort sagt – är olagliga.
Nu har Blizzard plockat bort möjligheten att köpa lootlådor för riktiga pengar i Overwatch och Heroes of the Storm, då man helt enkelt inte har något val. I ett uttalande säger man:
While we at Blizzard were surprised by this conclusion and do not share the same opinion, we have decided to comply with their interpretation of Belgian law. As a result, we have no choice but to implement measures that will prevent Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm players located in Belgium from purchasing in-game loot boxes and loot chests with real money and gems.
Valve har gjort det, liksom 2K Games. EA fortsätter dock göra motstånd.
