2016 släpptes till sist Warcraft: The Beginning, i folkmun känd som "Warcraft-filmen". Kritikerna sågade filmen medan en stor del av publiken gillade den Duncan Jones-regisserade filmtolkningen av Azeroth. För Syfy berättar nu Jones om den slitsamma produktionen. Han ville göra "sin" film men manuset skrevs om flera gånger, vilket Jones tror beror på att Legendary Pictures gick igenom tuffa tider. Eller som han uttrycker det, ett "politiskt minfält".

I think a lot of the rewriting in that, over the course of making the movie was really, really difficult and at times disheartening. Just being forced to make changes and compromises just due to the politics and the nature of that film. So, that was a real heart-wrencher ... at the time, that felt pretty traumatic.

Legendary såldes av Universal till Warner Bros., för att sedan återigen hamna hos Universal. Därefter såldes man till Wanda, ett kinesiskt konglomerat. Detta gjorde produktionen av filmen tumultartad och Jones förde ständiga samtal med Blizzard.

...who understandably were very careful about what happened with the movie because their bread and butter was the game Warcraft, which was bringing in a billion dollars a year for them.

Trots allt kaos har Jones tagit lärdom av hur man hanterar studiopolitik.
