Den 14 februari gick 19-åriga Nikolas Cruz till attack mot sin forna skola, beväpnad med ett semiautomatiskt gevär av typen AR-15. På tio minuter sköt han ihjäl 17 personer. En tragedi som återigen dragit igång debatten kring vapenlagarna i USA där många vill riva upp grundlagen som ger alla medborgare rätt till vapen men Donald Trump är av en annan mening. Under en panel med några av överlevarna från attentatet menade den amerikanska presidenten att en lösning vore att lärare som är duktiga skyttar borde få bära vapen i skolan.

Vid ett senare tillfälle kommenterar han våldet i spel och filmer, som han menar formar unga människors sinne.

We have to do something about what they're seeing and how they're seeing it and also video games. I'm hearing more more people saying the level of violence in video games is really shaping young people's thoughts and then you go the further step and that's the movies you see these movies they're so violent and yet a kid is able to see the movie if sex isn't involved but killing is involved.

Tidigare i veckan var Kentuckys guvernör Matt Bevin inne på samma spår men gick så långt som att kalla våldsamma spel en "en kultur som firar döden".

They celebrate the slaughtering of people. There are games that literally replicate and give people the ability to score points for doing the very same thing that these students are doing inside of schools, where you get extra points for finishing someone off who's lying there begging for their life.

These are quote-unquote video games, and they're forced down our throats under the guise of protected speech. It's garbage. It's the same as pornography. They have desensitized people to the value of human life, to the dignity of women, to the dignity of human decency.
